How to Use Litematica for Pixel Art & Schematics (2025 Guide)
Litematica is the best schematic mod for Minecraft. Learn how to load schematics, paste builds, and create ghost overlays specifically for pixel art.
If you are currently staring at a pixel art png on your second monitor and manually counting blocks: Stop it.
Seriously. Stop. You are wasting your life.
Litematica is a client-side mod that basically projects a "hologram" (ghost image) of your build directly into the world. You see exactly where every block goes. It's like painting by numbers, but for massive structures. It makes building pixel art about 100x faster.
I literally cannot play without it anymore.
Here is how to set it up specifically for our Pixel Art Generator.
Installation Checklist
Litematica runs on Fabric (mostly). Forge versions exist but they are usually broken.
- Fabric Loader: Get the one for your specific MC version.
- Fabric API: Throw it in
mods. - MaLiLib: This is a library Litematica needs. Everyone forgets this file and then complains the mod crashes. Don't be that guy.
- Litematica: Put in
mods.
Step 1: Getting a Schematic
- Make your art on our tool.
- Hit "Download Litematic".
- Drag that file into:
.minecraft/schematics. (If the folder isn't there, just make it. Keyboards are amazing.)
Step 2: Loading it In-Game
- Press
Mto open the Litematica Main Menu. - Click "Load Schematics".
- Pick your file and hit "Load Schematic".
- Look around. You should see a ghostly blue box somewhere.
Step 3: Positioning (The Annoying Part)
This is the part where everyone flails around.
- Hold a Stick (yes, a stick).
- Press
M-> "Schematic Placements" -> "Configure". - Use the coordinate buttons to move the hologram.
- Pro Tip: Hold
ALT+ Switch Item Scroll to nudge the hologram around while looking at it. It feels way smoother.
Step 4: Building (The Fun Part)
Now just fill in the blocks.
- Survival Mode: The mod won't place blocks for you (unless you cheat). It just shows you what goes where. If you place the wrong block, it highlights it in red.
- Easy Place Mode: You can enable this in settings. It automatically places the correct block from your inventory if you hold right-click. Warning: Some servers ban this. Check the rules.
- Creative Mode: You can use
Paste Schematic in Worldto spawn it instantly.
"Schematica" vs "Litematica"?
Schematica was the old mod (1.12). Litematica is the new one (1.13+). They are basically the same thing, but Litematica is more powerful and confusing.
Troubleshooting
"I can't open the menu!" Check your keybinds. Sometimes it conflicts with other mods.
"The hologram is rotatated wrong!" Go to specific placement settings and rotate it 90/180/270 degrees.
Master this mod, and you will never count incorrect pixels again.
